Age problem

If Jan is three times as old as Janice will be when Janette is as old as Jan is now, What is the order in age, from oldest to youngest?

Let 'a' be the age of Jan now.
Let 'b' be the age of Janice now.
Let 'c' be the age of Janette now.
Where 'a', 'b' and 'c' are also all positive integers.

We can now write the following two equations:-

a = c + n
a = (b + n) x 3

Hence:-
c + n = 3b + 3n
c = 3b + 2n

Therefore Janette is older than Janice (since 'n' is positive).

So the full order, oldest to youngest is Jan, Janette, Janice.
